Here's a nice sweet bread with a Granny Smith crisp.
Apple Praline Bread
For
the bread-
2
eggs
2
cups flour
1
½ cups Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced
1
cup sour cream
1
cup brown sugar
1
cup nuts-pecans, walnuts or a mix of the two is preferred
2
teaspoons baking powder
2
teaspoons vanilla
½
teaspoon salt
½
teaspoon baking soda
For the praline sauce-
¼ cup butter
¼ cup brown sugar
Preheat the oven to 350F while greasing up a 9”x 5”x 3” bread pan. In a large bowl, combine eggs, sugar, sour cream and vanilla. Mix them on the low-speed setting of an electric mixture for two minutes or until well blended. Add the flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder and beat again until well-mixed.
Then, stir in the apples and ½ cup of nuts. Pour into the pan, sprinkle the rest of the nuts on top and bake for 1 hour or until a middle-placed toothpick comes out clean.
Now, let the bread stand in the pan for about 20-30 minutes, turn onto a wire rack and set aside. While the bread is cooling, mix the butter and brown sugar in a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Then, reduce heat and stir for one minute until the sauce thickens. Now, drizzle over the bread and allow to cool.
Enjoy!
If you prefer, you could substitute another crisp apple for Granny Smith. Come to think of it, I wonder how it would taste with blueberries or strawberries in place of apples? If you try this, let us know how it turns out!
